Exterior Environment:
We are very fortunate to have access to a huge local field opposite the nursery for physical play, have picnics and to enjoy a story etc. We also have a fully enclosed and safe children’s play area just up the road from the nursery which we use daily. We do have access to a small garden at the rear of the hall, which we use for more quiet activities.
NURSERY FACILITIES
We are fortunate to be able to use the kitchen for cooking activities and have use of the local play park. We are own a huge library of big books and story sacks. And have a laptop and digital camera for the children to use daily. We have a large selection of remote controlled bugs and cars to allow the children to begin a firm foundation of ICT knowledge.
RESOURCES
The Nursery is extremely well equipped with a wide range of resources for indoor and outdoor use. Resources are well organised and labelled so that the children know where to find what they need. We endeavour to continually extend and replace our resources as needed.
We encourage children to take care of all our resources, use them appropriately and tidy them away after use.
FIRE DRILLS
Fire Drills are held every 6 weeks. They take place on different days and at different times to try to allow for as many eventualities as possible.
FIRST AID
All our staff are qualified in first aid. Members of staff treat minor injuries, however, we are allowed only to bathe injuries in water and apply a dry dressing if appropriate. If an injury requires more you will be informed as soon as possible and asked to come to nursery and take your child for further treatment.
In the event of a serious injury, medical help will be sought immediately and you will be contacted as soon as possible. Parents are always informed if a child has a head bump.
MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Please inform nursery staff of any medical history your child may have which -
- would affect his/her treatment in an emergency.
- might affect his/her performance or behaviour in the nursery
Please inform nursery staff if your child has an allergy.
PLEASE NOTE NURSERY STAFF ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ADMINISTER MEDICINES, unless prescribed by your doctor and you sign to give staff permission
NURSERY SECURITY
Children must always be brought to the Nursery and collected by a responsible adult of 16 years of age and over. In the interests of your child’s safety you should make a point of telling Nursery staff if he/she is to be collected by someone different from normal routine. This helps to avoid any misunderstandings. We also operate password system, which we ask you to provide in emergencies to people unfamiliar to the nursery who may collect your child. Please ensure on your arrival and departure of the nursery you close the outside gate.
BEHAVIOUR
We have a set of golden rules for children throughout our nursery:
Be kind and helpful and not hurt peoples feelings
Work hard
We listen to people, we do not interrupt
Be honest
Look after property, we do not waste or damage things
Be gentle we do not hurt people or living things
We believe in teaching the children it is not them who is naughty but the actual behaviour taking place.
WHAT TO WEAR
In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including messy ones, it is best to send children dressed in clothes that are easily washable or not too new.
It is good for children to practice skills that will make them independent. Simple clothing, which they can handle themselves, will enable them to go to the toilet when they want to and to put on and take off their outdoor clothes without being too dependent on other people, e.g., no dungarees. Please provide your child with a bag of spare clothes and if needed nappies etc.
In the autumn and spring terms, please provide Wellington boots in a plastic carrier bag. Please send your child in casual/sensible shoes for indoor climbing and music and movement work, as a lot of children don’t like taking off their shoes and socks.
It is requested that your child should not wear jewellery, except stud earrings. We regret we cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to items of jewellery and dangling jewellery presents a risk of injury to your child.
THE ROLE OF THE PARENTS
- We recognise parents as the first and most important educators of their young children. We aim to support parents
- We offer:
- Offering a settling in process with parents and their child
- One-one meetings with the parents and their child’s key worker
- We hold open mornings for parents to meet and talk with each other and staff.
At nursery we do have a uniform, which is a red polo shirt with the nursery’s logo on it, if you wish to purchase a uniform for your child please see the nursery manager. |
The nursery does have a uniform if you wish to purchase this please see the nursery manager.
SICKNESS
In order for us to protect your child and other children in nursery, please do not send your child in if he/she has been sick, had a high temperature or had diarrhoea within the last 48 hrs.
If a child becomes ill whilst at nursery he/she will be isolated (but well cared for) and parents will be contacted and arrangements made for the to go home. We can also not allow your child into group if they have had E-Coli or been in contact with anyone that may have had it for a minimum of 24hrs.
